We Made It

Well, we make it! We arrived safe and well yesterday morning Cambodian time. The kids were not too bad on the second sector but I think there were a few people relieved that it was only a one-hour flight, us included. I can only imagine how tired they must have been. All things considered they were great!

We were met at the Airport by Phil who is the LO here. He was waiting for us at the top of the aerobridge and it was lovely to have someone to lead us through immigration and customs. That being said it is a tiny airport and looked pretty hassle free anyway. Smooth transition to Cambodian citizens including Christopher really taking to the place and becoming a local by peeing on a tree on the way home in the car!

The house is enormous. I’m not talking big or large or substantial. I’m talking ENORMOUS! We drove up out street and honked at out front gate and our security guard opened out gate. We have a team of three who rotate on a 24 hours basis. Not that it is unsafe here, just the way that the expats work. The house is 3 storeys and we were misled on the 4-bedroom thing. It has 5! Each room has an en-suite and the kids are snoring away in their double beds as I type (it is 4 in the morning here but 8am in Mel….. damn jetlag!) Nick and I have a king bed and I think I saw him way over the other side last night. I will go into more detail and put some pics up later but the highlights are: a massive wooden staircase that would not be out of place on the Titanic, Satellite TV, Internet connection (a few wireless problems but the guy is coming again tomorrow), power points changed to aussie local points and best of all, EVERY TAP has filtered water! This one excited me the most as I was concerned about the kids drinking the bath water. Will still drink the bottled stuff but as far as showering, bathing and washing food, it’s fine to use.

I better go and try to get some more sleep. The kids had a nap yesterday afternoon and we then kept them up to 7.00pm local (11.00pm Mel). I have no idea what time they will wake this morning but they are going better than me at the moment. I have to say they are just incredible. They have just taken this whole thing in their stride. In fact, they have blown me away. They picked a room each, jumped on their beds and this is now home. They run around like they own the place and have lived here forever.

Off to try and get a couple of more hours…. I hope.
